Reverend Al Sharpton and MS/NBC

Below is lifted from tvnewser.com. It contains a quote from critics of the MS/NBC hiring of Rev Al Sharpton to host a show.

I think people (the critics) need to step back a second and take a deep breath. Whether you like or agree with Reverend Sharpton, it is grossly unfair to suggest he is not qualified and somehow lacks “experience, training, ability, and talent.” I think some journalists may think a wee bit too much about themselves and what it takes to do this job. I love my job but I also know what it takes.

I bet he has more experience than most who criticize him. He has been in the game for decades rather than on the sidelines. He also knows everybody which is invaluable to journalism and getting information.

And as for training? He only needs to be curious and prepared.

I don’t know if he will get lots of viewers but he sure is qualified.

Be fair to Sharpton but, of course, watch FOX.

from tvnewser.com:

When rumors surfaced this week that Sharpton was under consideration for the MSNBC job, one NABJ member told colleagues without challenge, “This would still be just another non-journalist media ‘celebrity’ receiving a TV show based upon their name recognition, not their years of experience, training, ability and talent.”
