Urgent: Boehner tells rank and file a call from the White House would have avoided invitation controversy

Per FNC’s Chad Pergram-Capitol Hill

Fox has learned that House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) informed rank and file Republicans on a previously-scheduled conference call this afternoon that he would invite the president to speak on Thursday night.

Sources familiar with the call say the speaker explained that a Joint Session requires a resolution from each chamber and is a difficult procedure to pull off in a short time.

He said that a phone call from the White House could have avoided the controversy.
