Note to GretaWire bloggers – headed to South Sudan

By the time you read this (I am pre posting it I will be on a flight – a quick trip but a far trip.  I am headed to a place plagued by great trouble and great despair – South Sudan.  Check out the pic of the African continent….you can see where South Sudan is and how far from Washington, DC.   (Yes, how lucky I am that I can sleep on planes.)

I wanted to go to South Sudan see the area, the refugee camps etc. with my own eyes since I think I am better able to report to you when I leave the studio.   This is not to say you can’t report from a studio – you can – but it just helps me do my job better for you if I have personal experience.  (This is why we have traveled the world – North Korea, all over western Europe, South America, Mexico, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Haiti, Peru etc. – over the many years of ON THE RECORD at 10pm.)

My ability to blog on GretaWire is obviously quite limited while I am in South Sudan so I don’t know how often I will be able to post.  I am told, however, that from time to time I might have internet access and when I do, you will be the first to know.

I am asking my colleague Abby Sears to monitor GretaWire in my absence and to post OPEN THREADS for you so you all can talk to each other.
