Last night I posted a blogger’s suggestion about what we could do about college, the cost etc. and asked for your opinion. The blogger sent me another email…so here it is. Read and post your ideas:

Since no one took seriously my home schooling the first 2 years of college idea last night I have another idea that they will also boo. I would welcome a program where corporations, large and small, offer more scholarships for students which pay for their college costs and also guarantee them a full time entry level or above position upon graduation. The larger the corporation, the more they could offer. In exchange, they get a tax deduction for the cost of the educational fees ( plus 10% above the cost) to take off their taxes.
They can offer them in the areas they need employees in. For example: Bayer Chemical could offer 10 scholarships in chemistry. If they have plants in 10 states than one could be offered at any major university within that state. They have a plant in WV so one would go through West Virginia University. One would go through The University of Texas for the Baytown plant and one through the University of South Carolina representing a plant there. That way the scholarships would cover the country.
Smaller corporations could offer just one based on what their company needs such as accountants, engineers, pharmacists and so forth. Hospitals could sponsor a scholarship for a nurse or tech position. They could be for jobs that require 4 year, 2 year degrees or law or medical school. The corporation would set up the required grade average and anything else for renewal.( no felony convictions and the like) When contracting a student to a scholarship the student gets a debt free education in a field they are interested in with the promise of a job at the end. The corporation gets to write off the cost plus 10% of the money they invested in the student and has the trained employee they need upon the student’s graduation.
Thousands of students would gain educations that are needed in fields where trained employees are needed. It would reduce student loan debt and the corporations would benefit by being able to not only gain a trained employee they need but also will be able to gain an additional 10% tax break on the money they are spending. If they spend $200.000 a year on the program they get to deduct $220,000 per year.
It seems simple that if you just apply common sense to problems you can come up with common sense solutions to help ease the problem. You can’t eliminate all problems but it is easier to carry 49 pounds than 50 over a great distance so every little bit helps!
