forgot to blog this…

When we were flying in South Sudan two weeks ago, there was a discussion between the two pilots as to whether they should turn off the transponder for a portion of our journey so that the Sudan Air Force flying in the region did not spot us. The pilots feared – due to the hostilities between the Sudan and South Sudan – the Sudan Air Force would shoot us down (intentionally or mistakenly.) I was seated in the third seat in the cockpit listening to the discussion. I asked a few questions hoping to figure out for myself what I thought wiser. I also wanted to know the level of danger. I did think maybe this is a discussion I would liked to have been part of before I boarded the plane (not in the air) or one that I had not heard at all. Yes…it all turned out just fine (obviously)
