Below is a letter from murder victim Joel Marino’s father Lou Marino. We covered the 08 murder and since then I have stayed in email contact with the family. Joel’s father was and is heartbroken …but see below as he honors his son and helps others.

Subject: J.A.M Fest 2012 & Joel Marino Scholarship Fund
Hello to all of my dear friends and acquaintances!
Those of you who know me well will be aware that we have established a Scholarship Fund in the name of my son, Joel A. Marino(JAM). If you are unaware of what happened to my son Google his name (Joel Marino) and that will give you insight as to why our annual fund raising event is so very important to me, and to all those who knew Joel and Loved him. On 1-28-2008 my son was murdered in his home in broad daylight in downtown Madison. A date I will never forget!
We want the scholarship fund to continue to grow so that my son’s memory will live on and we can continue to help young students who want to pursue a career in music and get financial assistance from my son’s Scholarship Fund. My son’s was all about music, and his passion for music was incredible.
If you look at the attached brochure you will see that we are having a family oriented fun day, and even if you can’t participate in the run/walk or kickball tournament, you can come down and enjoy the day and have some fun watching the events.
