If you thought the House and the Senate were REALLY going to give up their August vacation (they call it ‘recess’) to do the work you sent them to Washington to do and that they said they could do when running for office, think again! Yes, they voted to stay open for business last week …but check out the story below. They fooled you. They have now changed their minds and they have adjourned…gone on vacation.
What is particularly disturbing about this — besides the fraud of the vote last week to stay open — is that there IS important incomplete business. I know, the House says they did their work and are waiting for the Senate (there is much truth to that) — but staying open for business would at least put pressure on the Senate to work. Senator Harry Reid has a job – but he doesn’t care about yours or he would make sure his work is done so that our economy can get moving.
I talk to business people all the time and they are all on hold pending the decision about the taxes. They can live with the taxes going UP or STAYING THE SAME — but they can not plan until they know what it will be. UP or SAME? Instead of staying in Washington and working it out NOW, Congress has gone on vacation…and will do it after the election (December) when you can’t punish them with a vote.
Putting it off until December puts our ECONOMY ON HOLD — that is cruel to the many unemployed or underemployed.
