Both candidates, their campaigns and their supporting SuperPacs are engaged in dirty political warfare. That is all they do. Negative ad after negative ad….and insults and accusations (anonymous!) endlessly flying back and forth. You would think the nation’s two worst scoundrels were running for President and you would think that for good reason with all that we hear about them. Both candidates, both sides of the political contest, seem to spend all their time just trying to think up snappy insults about the other – or how to smudge the facts so as to appear honest, but malign the other. The media jumps in with both feet looking to isolate that clever phrase, that clever insult. Trying to destroy is not a way forward.
I sure don’t see any fresh ideas, do you?
Meanwhile…the American people wait….and wait…and wait…and wait….to find out WHAT the candidates plan to do? Anything new? Are we just going to wade through days and days of hearing the same cross insults and the political platitudes? Where is the inspiration from the candidates? Where are the new ideas?
Don’t tell me that taxes, up or down or even staying the same, is the answer. Raising taxes or even leaving them like they are for some or all is not the answer. Taxes are political ammunition for both parties (and have been for a century) and no matter what is done – up, down or stay the same – it only means we tread water at best. We need a structural change….we need new ideas.
Even small ideas can develop into an important trend — a trend that puts us on a path to success….not a path to more failure.
Here is an idea: why doesn’t one candidate or campaign or SuperPac go through our government. Identify the gross waste and come up with a solution. There is so much waste in our government that it makes our heads spin. It is billions and billions and billions and billions….
Here is an idea to get started: we (the government) have 14,000 empty buildings. 14,000!!! If the buildings are empty, it is obvious we don’t need them. Let’s sell them….now. Donald Trump last night ON THE RECORD at 10pm suggested we just auction them. That seems like a good idea (it is fast) even if we don’t get what we want for the buildings – at least we will have some cash and we won’t have to pay for upkeep. We can also stop doing stupid things like the government (taxpayers) paying $16 to sell a hamburger on Amtrak for which it charges only $9. Or how about Solyndra? That was stupid. We guaranteed a loan to Solyndra to build solar panels that cost more for them to make than we could buy from China. I am in favor of helping business grow — but being just plain stupid?
The foregoing are not novel ideas. It is just common sense – and it is fresh because no one is doing it. Why don’t we just pursue common sense? Let’s clean up – really clean up — our federal government, restructure and then see what we really need to make this a strong and prosperous government and country. It isn’t enough to hold a few hearings here and there – the problem is much too big. We need to develop a trend to put us on the right path and we need a leader to lead us.
