POTUS issued statement at 10:10 on Hurricane isaac, saying he has received a briefing from the Department of Homeland Security’s Janet Napolitano, Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Craig Fugate and National Hurricane Center.

“I want to encourage all residents of the Gulf Coast to listen to your local officials and follow their directions,” POTUS said.

“Now is not the time to tempt fate, now is not the time to dismiss official warnings. You need to take this seriously.”

“We’re dealing with a big storm and there could be significant flooding and other damage across a large area.”

POTUS spoke for 2:17 from the Diplomatic Room in front of a portrait of George Washington and did not answer a question shouted by the press corps over whether it was appropriate for him to continue campaigning in the face of the storm.
