Urgent: WH informs Hill about adding forces in Libya and Yemen
In accordance with the War Powers Act, the president has written to House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to inform him of additional security forces deployed to Libya and Yemen after the death of Ambassador John Stevens.
The War Powers Act requires the administration to acquaint Congress of such military deployments.
From the letter I have obtained:
These security forces will remain in Libya and in Yemen until the security situation becomes such that they are no longer needed.
These actions have been directed consistent with my responsibility to protect U.S. citizens both at home and abroad, and in furtherance of U.S. national security and foreign policy interests, pursuant to my constitutional authority.
