What ever happened to speaking the English language correctly ? Is grammar no longer taught in school? Even those who went to fancy schools butcher the English language on a regular basis. I hear it on television all the time. Politicians butcher the English language and it is too bad since it sets a lousy example and sure does say something about education (and maybe even where we are headed.)
When I was in grade school the nuns would punish us with either a slap, or require us to memorize the linking verbs and prepositions or require us to stay after school and diagram sentences (until 5pm!) Since I tended to “talk to my neighbor” in class, I was often diagramming sentences after school and yes, I can still recite the linking verbs and I am so-so to poor at reciting prepositions. At the time I hated the punishment but I am grateful now. Yes, of course I can still make a mistake but I am not a serial killer of the English language.
So tell me – is grammar still taught in schools?
PS: Do you know who has the best grammar on television? Laura Ingraham
