Just after that 2000 craziness in Palm Beach, Florida, the County sold the voting booths/stands, leftover ballots, hanging chads etc. After the nightmare, they did not want to use them again and I can understand that. I could not stop myself and I bought a voting booth, with ballots and chads and a certification of authenticity.
My friends and family thought it was a crazy purchase. I think I paid about $750 which just made my friends and family think it was even nuttier. I thought it Presidential/political history and for some reason thought it would be fun to own. Some people collect buttons, I own a voting booth.
It has all been boxed in my office since my purchase almost 12 years ago. I offered it to the Bush 43 Library but so far they have not taken me up on my offer. Maybe I will just unbox it and bring all the ‘stuff’ home.
