Benghazi latest: Senator Bob Corker (after looking at classified documents): ‘State Department is definitely more cooperative [today]‘

Below are notes from my FNC colleague John Brandt.  He caught up with Senator Bob Corker following Senator Corker’s review of classified documents:

[questions asked to] Sen Bob Corker, R-TN, senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations cmte following a classified document viewing session w/ State Dept personnel.

 

Is State being more cooperative?

 

Corker “oh definitely. I went through all the cables that were requested… there may be more that we have not yet seen but I did appreciate the opp to go through all of those”

 

C: “I had two state personnel while viewing docs and appreciated the opportunity.”

 

Now that elex over will this move faster now that politics is out of it a bit?

 

C: “I do. … I think yes and I would say our hrng Tuesday in a classified setting will be the beginning of that.”

 

Will that be the beginning of the end?

 

C: “I don’t know I think there is probably hopefully a good deal to learn about what happened. The aftermath the misleading stmtns we want to know what happened was there a fail of intel. I have had convos w/ clapper and petraeus I think ppl are still fairly upset that misleading comments were made. The aftermath part the most impt piece now is to und what happened … and make sure that these things don’t happen again.

 

See anything nefarious in the docs?

 

C: “To be candid no, it’s a pretty boring read if you want to know the truth. A lot of operational issues … a lot about scene setting a lot about what was happening locally politically nothing that I said ‘aha!’ Or that was a shocker.”

Corker, Isakson Call on President to “Come Clean” and Release Communications from Benghazi Attack

 

U.S. Senators Bob Corker, R-Tenn., and Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., both members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today called on President Obama to “come clean” and order his administration to fully disclose all communications relevant to the security situation in Benghazi between the U.S. Mission to Libya and the State Department leading up to the attacks.

 

“As the truth about what happened in Benghazi on the night of September 11 continues to trickle out, it’s becoming more apparent that the administration’s lack of truthfulness seems to emanate from a desire to hide something from the American people,” said Corker and Isakson. “After almost two months have passed, it’s time for the president to finally come clean and order his administration to fully disclose all communications relevant to the security situation in Benghazi. Surely the deaths of four civilian public servants warrant that action.”

 

In letters to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Sept. 25 and Oct. 3, Corker and Isakson asked the State Department to promptly provide the Senate Foreign Relations Committee with all communications relevant to the security situation in Benghazi between the U.S. Mission to Libya and the State Department leading up to the attacks, including any cables sent from Ambassador Stevens.
