What Senator Harry Reid saying now about fiscal cliff – per FNC’s Chad Pergram

Harry Reid

Below are notes from Chad:

Urgent: Reid says “If we go over the cliff, and that looks where we’re headed.”

Per Pergram-Capitol Hill

On-cam from Senate floor from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s opening remarks.

Reid:

I don’t know how it can happen now timewise.

· Reid equates the ball dropping on New Year’s Eve on Times Square to the pending fiscal cliff.

· He also blasts the House R’s for not being in DC. Blasts the House Republican leadership. Says they couldn’t even get everyone to DC to meet yesterday. Asks “where are their consciences?”

Reid:

If we go over the cliff, and that looks like where we’re headed.

Reid:

Speaker Boehner should call members back today.

Reid:

John Boehner seems to care more about keeping his Speakership than keeping the American people on firm footing. He’s waiting until January 3rd to get elected as Speaker.

Reid:

It’s obvious from the debacle that happened last week. And that’s what it was. It was a debacle.

Also, good sound from the opening prayer from Senate Chaplain Barry Black:

Black:

Wipe away selfish interests so we may perfectly love and serve you.

Black

Give our lawmakers courage as they face today’s challenges, providing them with the necessary skill to perform their duties.

Black

Give them the wisdom to refuse to sow to the wind, therefore risking, reaping the whirlwind.
