From London to Mozambique to Venezuela…check out journalist Sarah Grainger’s global career!

One of the things I love most about my job is getting to meet and interview people with fascinating backgrounds. Tonight ON THE RECORD at 10pm/ET we’ll get an update on the missing plane carrying Italian fashion mogul Vittorio Missoni from Sarah Grainger, a correspondent based in Venezuela. Check out Sarah’s biography below and follow her on Twitter @sarahgrainger.

After completing an undergraduate degree in English, Sarah studied broadcast journalism in London.

She began her career in domestic UK news with the BBC in 2000, broadcasting on regional television and radio.

She later moved to the BBC World Service where she specialized in African news and current affairs and she simultaneously completed a Masters degree in African Studies. This led to postings in Angola and Uganda and assignments in other parts of the continent including Mozambique, DR Congo and South Sudan.

In 2008 she moved to Guatemala to work for the news agency Reuters, focusing on economic issues, immigration and narco-trafficking and becoming a fluent Spanish speaker.

After more than two years in Central America, Sarah moved to Venezuela at the end of 2010. She’s a freelance multi-media journalist, working mainly for the BBC but also filing for CBC, France 24, RTE and Monocle among others.
