Why aren’t all the Inauguration festivities – speech, parade and balls – today?

The President and VP are taking the oath of office today (January 20) as required by the Constitution.  So why are all the festivities tomorrow? Washington DC is shutdown tomorrow and Federal workers get the day off – but does that make economic sense? You would think in these tough times we would take advantage of the good fortune the 20th fell on a weekend day. I know it is not much money (we of course pay government workers days off) but it is a bit of the Washington culture of other people’s (yours) money.  It isn’t amount of money but rather the culture of how Washington thinks during tough economic times.  Instead of taking advantage of the 20th falling on a weekend, Washington takes advantage of you.  Maybe if they worked this extra day you would get your tax refund processed one day faster….hhm
