Sen. Nelson says tells Sen. Cruz he “has gone over the line” by “impugning the patriotism” of Hagel (report from FNC’s Chad Pergram)

See report from my FNC colleague Chad Pergram and post your thoughts:

Urgent: Nelson says tells Cruz that he “has gone over the line” by “impugning the patriotism” of Hagel

Per Pergram-Capitol Hill

Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) lectures freshman Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for his suggestions about Hagel.

I want to put on the record that Sen. Cruz has gone over the line…and impugned the patriotism of Chick Hagel.

Sen. Cruz has stated his opinion.

There’s a certain amount of comity and civility that this committee is used to.

Nelson says he thinks that Cruz is “taking this too far.”

Cruz tries to get in a word edgewise on a point of personal privilege to defend himself on the Nelson accusation.

He wants to be heard on those charges.

Says he did not impugn Hagel’s patriotism. Says those charges are false.

Cruz says that Nelson suggested that Cruz believed Hagel had not been truthful. Cruz says to the contrary.

It’s not that he has lied. It has been that he refused to answer questions.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ):

Sen. Hagel is an honorable man and no one on this committee should impugn his character or integrity.

Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS):

Let me see if I can reel this back….this is not my idea of a good time.
