A first for the World Cup! The 2014 World Cup in Brazil will be the first to offer special seats for obese fans. That’s right – there will be reserved seats that are twice as wide and reinforced to support a person who weights up to 560 pounds.
So why the special seats? They are being offered to conform to Brazilian laws which require at least one percent of seats in every stadium to be available for disable people, including people in wheel chairs and the obese. To qualify for the special tickets, soccer fans must submit a medical certificate that proves they have a body mass index of 30 or more. The special seats are available to Brazilians and international fans. And it’s not just the World Cup – according to Brazilians legislation, the 2016 Rio Olympics will also have to offer seats for obese fans.
So what do you think about the offer of special seats for obese sports fans? Sound off in the comments!
