Game playing? Petty?
Why didn’t A/G Holder just answer the question yesterday? He could have stopped the filibuster (or even prevented it) instead of let it go on past midnight.
Of course the cost of keeping the Capitol open (including security) until after midnight is small in the grand scheme of things — but it does seem pretty petty that A/G Holder did not answer the question today early on during the filibuster (and A/G Holder added the remark – see the letter – that it has “come to his attention”. Of course he knew but he was being snarky and playing around with the process. Oh well.)
I am also surprised that Senator Rubio was not annoyed that A/G Holder waited until today to answer the question.
SENATOR RUBIO COMMENTS ON BRENNAN NOMINATION VOTE
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), a member of the Senate’s Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement regarding John Brennan’s nomination to be CIA director:
“Earlier today, I informed the White House that I would oppose further consideration of John Brennan’s nomination to be CIA director until Attorney General Eric Holder answered Senator Rand Paul’s question about whether non-combatant American citizens could be targeted by drones on American soil. Now that the question has been answered and the President has acknowledged that he does not, in fact, possess such authority, I intend to support cloture on John Brennan’s nomination and will vote to confirm him.”
