Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sparking outrage, but not for the usual reasons! This time, the Iranian president was caught on camera in what some would call a “sinful” picture. The photo shows Ahmadinejad hugging the grieving mother of the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. The photo was taken at Chavez’s funeral in Caracas.
Now Ahmadinejad is under fire from his country’s clerics. Conservative Muslim leaders say the Iranian president’s behavior was forbidden, even calling it “clowning around.” According to Islamic rules, Muslim men are not allowed to touch women outside their own families. So Ahmadinejad is in big trouble for hugging Chavez’s mother! But – there are also reports that the criticism is politically motivated. Iran has an election coming up in June.
So what do you think about the controversy over the Ahmadinejad photo? Real outrage or political ploy? Sound off!
