Below is Senator Blunt’s press release about calling for the removal:
Reports Surface That Miller Knew About IRS Targeting Last Year, Misled Congress
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Amid reports that the Acting Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Steven Miller knew about the agency’s outrageous and unwarranted targeting of conservative groups as early as May 2012, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) released the following statement calling for Miller to step down or for President Barack Obama to remove him immediately:
“If the reports are accurate that Steven Miller knew about the IRS’s egregious targeting of conservative groups last year and misled members of Congress about those actions, he should step down or be removed immediately.
“It’s become increasingly clear this was not limited to the actions of a small group of lower level employees, which is why President Obama and his administration must initiate a comprehensive and transparent investigation immediately.
“Americans deserve answers, and I join my colleagues in support of any and all congressional investigations to uncover the truth behind these shameful activities.”
In the wake of the IRS scandal, Blunt has encouraged groups to contact his office if they were targeted.
