Hundreds show for rally against gun violence in downtown Orlando in honor of Trayvon Martin
By Jerriann Sullivan, Orlando Sentinel
Days after George Zimmerman was found not guilty in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, about 300 demonstrators hoping to honor the South Florida teen are in downtown Orlando marching from Lake Eola Park to the Orange County Courthouse.
The “March Against Gun Violence” is being organized by the Modarres Law Firm and will include such guest speakers as Orlando attorney Natalie Jackson, one of the attorneys for Trayvon’s parents.
Organizers of the march are hoping others will speak, but they have been unable to confirm that those people — including the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and attorney Benjamin Crump, another attorney for Trayvon’s parents. — will appear.
The Sentinel was able to confirm that Rev. Al Sharpton will not be attending the event, but calls to Jackson and Crump were not immediately returned.
