I think many young people don’t have a sense their country cares about them and is willing to invest in them. I don’t think it is black v. white but rather economic status / poverty and whether the young people have a chance or believe they do.
Poor young people are discouraged. They are without hope. And they come from all walks of life and backgrounds.
It is indeed true that our largest cities with huge poor populations are overwhelmingly African Americans but the discussion the nation may have about young people and how to inspire them should not exclude the other ethnic backgrounds where poverty has been the scourge. We should have the discussion focus on poverty – whether African American, white, Hispanic or something else.
Am I wrong?
