The pic above shows you a child who is starving to death. The bones are obvious. You should feel that child’s skin – it feels like none I have ever felt before. The child is dying. The child is starving to death because Sudan’s President Bashir bombed his village and burned his family’s crop and continued to try and kill him and his family. The family, like thousands and thousands of others, fled – no home, no food, no water, no shoes and walking on hot hot hot sand in 110 degree temperatures (the get absolutely scorched by the sun) and hoping not to get bombed, shot or the female members of the family raped.
I know President Bashir knows about GretaWire and he is not happy with it or with me. I got the message loud and clear when I met with some representatives of the Sudan Consulate here in DC two weeks ago. They asked to meet with me to discuss my postings here on GretaWire.
They told me that I should tone down my postings and I said I would be happy to do so as soon as the bombing of innocent people stopped.
They also told me I am not fair to President Bashir. You be the judge on that one. I don’t want to be unfair — but I did see this with my own eyes. I welcome the opportunity to meet with them again — or even with President Bashir — to discuss this.
Below is my person note to President Bashir – and I consider this note toned down but I will step it up if I see the bombings continue. I will continue to track when and where President Bashir travels and urge that he be arrested pursuant to the genocide indictment he faces in the International Criminal court in The Hague. I will stop my postings about President Bashir as soon as the killings / bombings stop – or if he convinces me I am wrong or unfair.
Dear President Bashir: A leader leads. He does not kill his own people. If you have a problem in your country, fix it! That is your responsibility. You don’t fix it by killing innocent people (including children) and you can’t justify those killings as simply the consequences of war as though these people did not matter. They do matter.
I have seen the bombers and craters with my own eyes. I also have seen who is targeted — the innocents. All I had to do was look up in the sky as your bombers scoured the area looking for people to drop bombs on. I have also seen the kids on the edge of death from malnutrition (no doubt dead by now) because you have bombed their villages and burned their fields and they have no food as they hide in caves — hoping to find some leaves or bugs to eat. They have no water and are dying of dehydration. I have spoken to women raped by your military. Do you want to hear more? Probably not…but there is a lot more. Be a leader and stop being a ruthless killer of innocents. I promise to stop posting about you as soon as this stops. Best, Greta
PS I took these pictures.
These kids – see below – have done nothing to President Bashir. They are less than 3 feet tall! Why is he trying to kill them? This cave is where the family is hiding because their homes were burned down and bombs are trying to kill them overhead.
