As you know from reading GretaWire, the Sudanese Government is not happy with my posting of pictures from the Nuba Mountain region in Sudan (children starving to death, hiding in caves, eating bugs, bomb crater etc.) Those pics were taken when I traveled there with Reverend Franklin Graham and Samaritan’s Purse (and Griff Jenkins!)
Foreign Minister Ali Karti was in the USA for the opening of the UN General Assembly and so we met for about 2 hours in Washington, DC (also Reverend Franklin Graham and my husband were at the meeting.)
The meeting with the Foreign Minister got heated but was cordial. We did not agree….but we agreed to keep communicating.
We listened to Foreign Minister Karti’s positions on the bombings and he listened to our view. He said the innocent civilians were “collateral damage” that happens in war and that it is the rebels who are to be blamed. I saw the Sudanese Government weapon — bombers at 25,000 feet. It is hardly an even match.
Foreign Minister Karti said that the rebels in the Nuba Mountains are terrorizing and killing (and not the other way around. He denied the Sudanese Government was terrorizing and killing innocent civilians.)
I was there. I talked to people in the Nuba Mountains. I saw with my own eyes people suffering (and with my camera and thus you have, too.) I saw the bombed churches and I saw bomb craters — including next to the school Pres Bashir’s bombers just missed.
Despite what I saw in the Nuba Mountains, I agreed to post their pictures here and their explanation which they say disproves what I have posted here on GretaWire.
As soon as they forward me their evidence, I will post it — along with any explanation they provide. I had expected to get their pictures later on Tuesday after our meeting (although they did provide a date or day certain.) It is now Sunday, and I have NOT received the pics they said they would send me.
Bottom line – the killing and terrorizing of the innocent must stop….but I did not see any indication the Sudanese Government will stop.
