NOTE: this is not about every politician. I do admire many on local, state and national level. This is about those politicians who put themselves first. They know who they are. I am disappointed, but not that cynical that I include everyone. Read on..
“…At the same time, the Senate was expected to vote Saturday on a Democratic proposal that would extend the debt ceiling through the end of 2014, with no strings attached..” [NYT]
About the above, I am not posting this about whether or how much the debt ceiling should be raised or what should be or should not be extracted in exchange but for the “through the end of 2014″ part above. Really? ”through the end of 2014?” You know why they pick that..and so do I.
I think anyone (Democrat OR Republican) who votes for this particular time line (thru end of 2014) or agrees to this time line is only interested in making sure you don’t take this issue out on him or her (or his/her party) in the midterm elections (November 14.) This is not putting you first. This is putting himself or herself first.
Come November 2014, those who vote for this specific time line (thru 2014) are hoping you will forget all about the way this was handled NOW and by whom. The politicians want you to forget, they want it to be a distant memory, they want as much cover as possible. They have really let us down now and don’t want you to remember it or have it happen again before you go to the polls in November 2014.
And it gets worse.
Likewise, if this 2014 deal is the final one, when we go through this right after the 2014 election (AGAIN) (January 2015) without real progress (only temporary self serving bandaid actions) they hope you will forget it again by the 2016 election. January 2015 is the about the farthest point out from November 2016.
This is disappointing if – after all the votes now shake out – this turns out to be their time line. We need real solutions by real leaders. We don’t need a bunch sneaky politicians coming out with sneaky plans to try and benefit themselves first. I really don’t get blatant political decisions like this — yes, they are thinking of themselves, but even if they don’t care about us, what about THEIR families, THEIR children, THEIR grandchildren? Would you not think they would at least think of them?
We need our leaders to lead the nation….and we need them to do it with good heart and good motive — whatever that outcome may be and whatever our differences may be. We don’t need to be used.
Am I wrong?
