Sam has appeared on ON THE RECORD at 10pm many times — he lived in DC and did the Capitol Hill beat and the White House beat. And now? He made a huge (and smart!) career jump.
He returned home to Kentucky and is now the political reporter for the Lexington, Ky. Herald-Leader. Why is that such a brilliant career move?
Because Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has a very tough race in 2014…and there is a chance that Senator Rand Paul, also from Kentucky, is running for President in 2016. That means that Sam, not only does he know Kentucky better than any other journalist, but now is in the best position to cover these two key races. These races are not local, they are of national interest.
Tune in tonight to ON THE RECORD at 7pm -- Sam will tell us about the 2.9 billion KENTUCKY dam that got slipped into the government funding bill. Why was that in the bill? What does a KENTUCKY dam have to do with re-opening the government and debt ceiling?
