If all goes as planned, I am going to Haiti, to the Greta Home and Academy for my Christmas vacation. I will be going with my husband and, of course, Reverend Franklin Graham and Samaritan’s Purse. (This pic was taken last year or two years ago on one of our Christmas trips to Haiti.)
The plan is to give each of the 80 children new running shoes (don’t tell them! It is a surprise) and another gift as well. I have a wish list from the kids and we – with help of the volunteers at Samaritan’s Purse – are scrambling (shopping!) to fulfill it. It is so much fun to do this – I can’t think of any better way for me to spend my vacation. The kids are great, the teachers are great, the Samaritan’s Purse volunteers are great.
Haiti has suffered so much and so have these children. 300,000 died in the earthquake 4 years ago and so many kids lost their entire families or were simply born in displaced persons’ camps and abandoned…so, with Greta Home and Academy and Samaritan’s Purse, we are trying to help them help themselves. (I am going to check on their school work while I am there! Who would have guessed that I – who was a troublemaker – would become a task master like the nuns who used to give me hell! Just kidding…)
And see below…..Reverend Franklin Graham on the slide at the Greta Home and Academy……
By the way, my husband and I have the 80 kids at the Greta Home covered for Christmas presents ….but there are millions and millions of kids around the world who are not covered. If you want to help them, there is an easy and inexpensive way to help and that is OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD. CLICK HERE
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD was started in 1993 and since then, MORE than 100 million girls and boys, in more than 130 countries have received the shoe box gifts put together by good hearted people like you. Go to the website (link is above) and be part of this fun project. All you have to do is get a shoe box and puts some items in it for the kids — they love anything…pencils, toothbrushes, combs, little dolls, balls etc. Each box is a surprise!
