I like Governor Huckabee. He is a very nice man, repectful to women, and a good colleague – but the words he chose to make his point are insulting to women

Ordinarily I don’t get into the spats surrounding my colleagues but sometimes I think you should hear from me on some of them – especially when the issue is women.  You won’t hear from me on all of the spats, but my headline tells you what I think about this one.

I juxtapose his poor choice of words against my experience with Governor Huckabee as a remote colleague (he is in NY and I am in DC and I see him only time to time.)  My experience has been a good one.

As noted, he is a good colleague, in my experience always a gentlemen and friendly.  I have never heard anyone say he is disrespectful of women.  But sometimes people you like, say or do something you strongly disagree with, or use a poor choice of words that are insulting and you need to state it. He could have stated his view better.   That’s all.

PS (and an update) – we should measure someone by his or her actions..not an occasional clumsy selection of wordsAs an aside, from time to time, I regret some things I say or how I say them.   A good example: my ‘mea culpa’ about Richard Sherman OFF THE RECORD on January 24th posted here on GretaWire.

“…and if the Democrats want to insult women by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it.”

He added: “Our party stands for the recognition of the equality of women and the capacity of women. That’s not a war on them, it’s a war for them.”
