I meet so many young people who want to be an anchor on cable news.
Here is my tip: have more interest in the news than in yourself.
Ted Turner – who came up with the idea of 24/7 news – said ‘the news is the star.’ He was / is right.
I see so many young people doing guest performances on TV and they are vastly more interested in how they do, and how they look, than in the actual story.
You can’t sell the viewers on a story / topic – which is key – if you are not fascinated yourself by the topic. Viewers will figure you out fast. Why should they pay attention to a topic if the anchor or reporter is only ho hum about it?
