When President Kennedy suggested in 1961 that we try to send a man to the moon by the end of the decade…the nation AND the media said, ‘why not?’ President Kennedy’s goal was exciting for the nation (and yes, we did it!)
Fast forward to 2012…
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich, as he ran for President, said we should develop a base on the moon. And the media? They laughed at him and his idea.
Speaker Gingrich’s assertion was a more modest goal than President Kennedy’s 1961 goal since we knew / know we can get to the moon.
So, why the laughter by the media at Speaker Gingrich and his goal for the nation?
Does it say more about the media than about Speaker Gingrich?
PS – I like big ideas. I loved that President Kennedy set that goal for us.
