Statement of John Haymond, Esq.

Hartford, CT

My family — especially my youngest daughters –has always enjoyed Judge Judy and her particular brand of justice, which is why we were thrilled when the local ABC affiliate in New Haven and NBC affiliate in Springfield approached us to appear in promotional advertisements for the Judge Judy Show.

I was shocked to learn that Judge Judy filed a lawsuit against me for the very promotions in which I endorsed her. It had always been my understanding that the promotions were properly authorized. Further, no reasonable person could believe them to be an endorsement of me or my law firm. If the local affiliates would just release these Judge Judy Show promotions, everyone would see this is much ado about nothing.

It is unfortunate that what appears to be a misunderstanding has turned into a federal lawsuit and a national news story. Despite the lawsuit and her statement yesterday, I remain a fan of Judge Judy’s and still appreciate the manner in which she has elevated the legal profession. It is my hope that Judge Judy takes another look at the promotions and then is willing to discuss them with me in a manner that befits our profession.
