Good for Governor Cuomo! Apparently he cares a whole lot more about children and education than the teachers’ unions. (Read the article below.)
One other thing, he is obviously more interested in helping the kids than in his political future. The article below says the teachers unions accuse the Governor of backing charter schools because of campaign contributions but I don’t buy it. It is political suicide for a Democrat to go against the teachers unions like this. So...Good for Governor Cuomo.
There is no reason charter schools can’t co-exist with public schools unless someone is trying to destroy the charter schools. I have walked the halls of a New York City charter school…and a public school. To deny kids a charter school is outrageous!
Finally, the public school teachers should be spending that 2.5 million they are using to attack Governor Cuomo on making the public schools better, not in trying to tear down someone trying to help kids.
Teachers unions funneled $2.5 million into what Gov. Cuomo called “front groups” to do their dirty work attacking him for supporting charter schools and opposing tax hikes.
The rebranded ACORN — New York Communities for Change — received a total of $1.3 million from the United Federation of Teachers and New York State United Teachers from 2010 to 2013. The unions also pumped $1.2 million into a group called Alliance for Quality Education.
Both issued statements accusing the governor of “pay-to-play politics”
