I posted earlier today about Senator Dick Durbin’s comment last night that some of what was being reported in the press about Sgt Bergdahl was not accurate. (scroll down).
To the extent anything is not accurate about the Berdahl story, do not blame the media. We want the facts – and we are trying to get them. To the extent there are inaccuracies, I blame the White House and Congress and this is the pattern in our Nation’s Capitol.
Briefings are behind closed doors that need not be — but are hidden from the American people just to protect political hides.
And our sources don’t have the courage to let us name them — they want to be anonymous.
Read FNC Chad Pergram’s email below – 3 different versions from 3 different people and none will allow his name:
1. A Senate aide familiar with last night’s briefing tells me the following: “Senators were informed at the briefing yesterday that the U.S. obtained credible information that, if anything about the swap became public, Bergdahl would be killed.”
2. On top of that, I have another senior source saying this assertion is “ridiculous. Notifying Congress does not make it public.”
3. And another source familiar with the briefing says “this is not what was told to the staff in the classified setting. The Taliban did say Bergdahl was near his death bed, but not that they threatened to kill him.”
