Below is more information from FNC Chad Pergram about the Senate vote (see posting here on GretaWire that is right before this one.) The vote is not even controversial! The nominee is expected to be confirmed by voice vote — and yet, this confirmation vote has been pending since May in our ‘do nothing’ US Senate, led by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Go figure, right?
This was not the most-controversial nomination which ever arrived on the Senate’s doorstep. But I am told that the crash of MH17 did liberate this particular nomination from what has generally been a pretty tight Senate bottleneck. He is expected to be confirmed by voice vote, which tells me there is little opposition. The Senate just felt they needed to do this confirmation in light of the crash.
