I am all for making things better…but it really does say something when there is special training to be fair and decent to each other. Why isn’t it just natural?
FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — The police chief of a St. Louis suburb gripped by unrest since a white officer fatally shot an unarmed black teenager says he’s welcoming federal training on improving race relations.
Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson told reporters Wednesday his department is working with the Justice Department’s community relations experts to help address the racial discord that’s erupted since 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed on Saturday.
Jackson also says he’s working with the NCAAP to arrange a meeting with Brown’s relatives as early as Thursday.
Jackson says the investigation he’s turned over to St. Louis County police could take an additional two weeks.
He also says he has no details about how many times Brown was shot, while confirming the officer who shot the teen sustained facial injuries during the confrontation.
