I hope DC does not get the Olympics. It is not the right city for it … and it is not fair – pick another city!
First, Washington, DC is not the most organized city in the nation. I love DC, but its strength has not been in services and organization. And how about security? besides the risk of life (which you would have any place) do we really want to put the beautiful monuments at risk since they are particularly good targets for mean spirited people?
Second, if DC got the Olympics, what would we do with the infrastructure after the Olympics? I don’t imagine that American people want the Federal government to grow even bigger to fill the infrastructure left by the Olympics. From what I hear, the American people are already fed up with the size of government.
Third, DC is a very small city — how about the midwest? Milwaukee, Wisconsin would be a much better idea. The Federal Government has and continues to pour a great deal of money into DC, how about spreading the wealth to some place else in the USA? We have more job protection here with the Federal Government than other parts of the nation — so should we not ‘share the wealth’ of all the jobs that come with the Olympics? That is not to say we could not use more jobs in DC (we definitely could) but rather to think about other parts of the nation which do not have the advantage of such a big employer that is going no where (Federal Government.)
On the bright side? all the politicians are on a 5 week vacation beginning August 1 so there might be extra room in town…
