Joe McCarthy? You know why the magazine did this.
I am not telling you to agree with Senator Cruz or not — that’s your business — but Nation Magazine is trying to slime Senator Ted Cruz in this pic they tweeted of their cover. The Nation’s cover and the message it sends is our business because we need to get out of the name calling gutter and work on solutions.
Ask yourself, is Nation’s cover a good smart way to foster debate and to report differences? I don’t think so. And what does the cover tell you about Nation Magazine? To me it makes Nation Magazine look desperate, desperate for attention (just like Time Magazine today.)
Had I not seen the Nation cover, I might have read the magazine since I do like to read viewpoints of the left, right and the middle. I like to read about issues. However, the cover drawing stops me because I just assume it is some petty school yard mud fight magazine and not an intellectual and analytical discussion of serious issues.
What is about these magazine covers today?
Sliming is different than disagreeing or having a vigorous debate about differences.
