Boehner Blasts Holder: There Is No Issue of Race
BY: Washington Free Beacon Staff
Speaker of the House John Boehner (R., Ohio) forcefully responded to Attorney General Eric Holder’s contention yesterday that he and President Obama are receiving rough treatment because of their race.
“There is no issue of race here,” he said.
Boehner, speaking Thursday in a press conference, said Holder’s citation for contempt was because his department has not been “forthcoming” and prevented House investigators from having access to certain documents.
Moreover, the House Speaker said Holder and the DOJ refuse to hold the Obama administration accountable for lying to the American people:
CHAD PERGRAM: In a speech yesterday the Attorney General suggested that he was treated, and perhaps this president and others in the administration were treated a certain way because of race. Even if that’s not intentional by members of Congress, is that a problem for members of your party when they go after members of the administration?
JOHN BOEHNER: There is no issue of race here. The frustration is that the American people have not been told the truth about what happened at the IRS. The American people have not been told the truth about what happened in Fast and Furious. The administration has not told the American people about Benghazi. We have been going through all of these hearings, having to hold people in contempt because they have made it impossible to get to the documents. They have not been forthcoming; they owe the American people the truth.
